Founders

Brighthouse was founded by Greg Brogger and Scott Painter. Having worked together, on and off, for over a decade, the two share a track record of launching successful ventures that began with CarsDirect (Nasdaq: INET). Their complimentary blend of skills and resources are central to Brighthouse's unique recipe for success.

Greg Brogger

Prior to Brighthouse, Greg co-founded Zag.com, Inc. a next generation online auto buying platform. At Zag, Greg closed $67 million in debt and equity financing, the acquisitions of two companies and strategic partnerships with two Fortune 500 companies.

Greg has also been the President of Channel Capital Management, a small but successful investment fund, as well as President of eMedia, Inc., which was ultimately sold to Akamai. Before that, Greg co-founded and served as CEO of CD1 Financial and COO of CarsDirect, which subsequently went public as Internet Brands (Nasdaq: INET) - CarsDirect raised more than $350 million in private equity financing. Prior to that, Greg was VP of Business Development at Idealab. Greg began his career advising early stage technology companies as an associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

Greg is presently a Director of ListSpinner, Inc. and Zig.com. He is also a member of the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index Advisor Panel. Greg received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from The Wharton School.


Scott Painter

Scott Painter is the co-founder of Brighthouse and has been on the Board of Directors since inception. Scott is proven entrepreneur having raised hundreds of millions of dollars in early stage and venture capital to finance his ideas. He is a pioneer in the online automotive retail sector and is widely credited with the introduction of up-front pricing as the founder and CEO of CarsDirect.com. As an idealab! CEO and an eCompanies CEO he has been at the forefront of commercializing disruptive technology solutions. Scott is currently the Chairman and CEO of Santa Monica based Zag (www.Zag.com) which operates the online auto buying programs for Capital One, USAA, AAA (13 states), UPromise, Overstock and numerous others with exclusive access to over 100 million members nationwide.

Scott is also the co-founder of Pricelock (www.Pricelock.com), an innovative company that is providing protection from rising gas prices. He serves on numerous private, public and charitable Boards.

  • Austin Beutner

    Former President, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Investment Officer at Evercore Partners Inc. which manages more than $1.2 billion in capital.  He co-founded the company in 1996. Mr. Beutner has also been a principal of The U.S. Russia Investment Fund and The Blackstone Group.

  • Larry Butler

    Presently CEO/Founder of FreeCar Media LLC, a nontraditional advertising company.


 

  • Chris Gaebler

    Presently Vice President of Marketing & Strategy for Sony Electronics and formerly Vice President of Internet Brands, Inc. and a senior consultant with Accenture Consulting's Strategy Group.

  • Todd Gitlin

    Currently Managing Partner/Founder of Safire Partners, a leading Southern California executive search firm specializing in Internet and technology companies.


 

  • Martin Korman

    Currently a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he leads the firm's mergers and acquisitions practice.

  • Scott Mednick

    Scott is amedia and technology executive and entrepreneur. He has raised over $800 million for his various endeavors which include the founding of Legendary Pictures, Mandalay Entertainment and THINK Nerw Ideas.


 

  • Ken Ong

    Engineering Director for Google, Inc.  In particular, Mr. Ong manages the teams responsible for image solutions, including Picasa.  Previously he held senior engineering positions at Amazon, BEA and Microsoft.

  • Chris Porch

    Chris was a founder of Trilogy Software and CEO of Between Markets and Itzbig. Currently he is President of Zag.com.


 

  • Adeo Ressi

    Adeo is the founder and CEO of TheFunded. He is arguably the leading voice speaking on behalf of companies in the venture capital community.

  • Todd Tappin

    Tappin was a founding team member of Overture, and played a leadership role in its IPO and sale to Yahoo. Most recently he was the CFO of Helio.

 

  • Sam Hayes

    Most recently Head of Java Corporate Development at Sun Microsystems, Sam has also led business development for venture-backed startups now part of Wine.com and Akamai.
